This senior role offers the opportunity to shape service delivery, build workforce capability, and strengthen partnerships that improve access and outcomes for CALD consumers and their families.
About the Opportunity
The Multicultural Mental Health Coordinator provides highlevel clinical services, leadership, and consultation within a dedicated consultation–liaison model. As part of the Mental Health Resource Team, you will support clinicians across the Townsville Mental Health Service Group to deliver culturally safe, evidencebased care for consumers experiencing mental illness and/or problematic substance use.
This is a senior allied health position suited to an experienced occupational therapist with strong crosscultural capability, advanced clinical decisionmaking skills, and a passion for equitable mental health care.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate culturally responsive mental health and AOD care for CALD consumers and their families, aligned with national mental health standards and multicultural frameworks.
- Deliver highlevel clinical services including assessment, care planning, psychoeducation, group programs, and brief interventions.
- Apply advanced crosscultural communication skills, including effective collaboration with interpreters, bicultural workers, and cultural support staff.
- Provide specialist consultation, advice, and support to clinicians and managers to enhance culturally appropriate practice across THHS.
- Develop strategies that improve equitable access to mental health services for CALD communities and promote consumer and carer participation in service planning.
- Lead and contribute to training and education initiatives that build multicultural capability across the workforce.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support integrated, accessible care.
- Collaborate with multicultural mental health roles across Queensland to support statewide excellence in CALD service delivery.
- Participate in supervision, provide professional supervision to colleagues and students, and contribute to quality improvement and research activities

- Ability to work autonomously within a senior scope of practice and contribute meaningfully to multidisciplinary care.

What You’ll Need
- A tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
- Appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) would be highly desirable. If not AMHP then willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for appointment
